The Columbia River Gorge

The mighty Columbia River carved deep gorge between what is now The Dalles, OR to the east and Corbett, OR to the west. It's now protected as the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the USFS.  The Gorge is as mighty as the Columbia River itself at 4,000 feet deep and 80 miles long, and replete with dramatic waterfalls, cliffs and spires.  Sadly, about 50,000 acres of the Gorge was burned in 2017 in a fire set by careless teenagers.

It has long been a favorite area for photographers.  I have photographed there in the past, but this was my first trip back since the fire.  Many of the trails are finally open again, providing access to the Area's magnificent waterfalls and forest.  But much of the Area remains closed.
