The ACFL Forest Retreats into Winter
Every spring and summer the plants of the forest awake from their winter slumber to create the flowers and foliage that bring the forest back to life. It is a miraculous feat, literally creating huge amounts of new growth from thin air. However, as summer wanes, so do the flowers and foliage. During autumn, the forest prepares for winter. After a colorful last gasp, much of the summer's new growth begins to shrivel and die, and finally returns to the ground to make new soil that will support next year's miracle. This portfolio includes images of that retreat into winter slumber in the Anacortes Community Forest Lands.
